02-13. Roof Work and More

So after having my sims test the new playroom, I discovered that the roof edges protruding into the room blocked access to everything. There were even some "invisible" roof pieces causing trouble. But after MANY hours, I have the roofs fixed. And it was a learning experience!

What I Learned
1) You have to have a proper roof above any floors/rooms when other roofs are placed on levels below. If you don't, those other roofs will protrude through walls into rooms. That's because without an upper roof, the rooms are not considered closed off. They aren't real rooms.

2) Sometimes these interfering roof pieces aren't seen if you just have the walls down looking into the room. But if you close the room up and look into the room through a window (from the outside of the house), you will see those parts of the roof that were "invisible" before.

3) You can use a flat roof on the top floor to insure that rooms are recognized, but the flat roofs cannot be recolored as far as I know. Yes, you can use floor tiles instead, but then the roof isn't recognized as genuine and you end up with other roof edges sticking through lower room walls.

4) If you have a house with a complex multi-roof structure, I suggest putting up the walls, but then place the top roof first and work your way down.

Not sure any of this makes sense. It's difficult to explain. But after all the roof struggles I've been through in Sims 3, I did find a solution to getting rid of roof sections sticking into upper rooms.

Here's a picture of how the Faraz home first looked. Notice the top tower with only colored floor tile and a fence as a substitute roof. THAT is what was causing problems in the rooms below. Also notice all the different roof sections on the house.
After much suffering trying to replace those roof sections, I finally put a regular roof on the very top.
Most of the issues with the roofs below ended right then.
It was just a matter of matching up edges and moving objects out of the way to successfully replace all the roofs.
While I was redoing rooms and roofs on the upper levels, I decided I might as well make the rooms bigger. So the second floor was expanded to meet up with the front tower, making it easier to access that little tower via a door.

I also covered the grey brick walls with wallpaper and carpeted the grey wood floors to match the tower room. The extra bath is also larger. I put a potty chair in there, but I still need to add a sink.
The playroom has lots more space now and everything is clear for access.
There's enough extra space for socializing with family members and visitors too.
Faith can play with all her toys now without any roof interference.
And even the room on the top floor was expanded a little making it more usable for the future.
The only thing I did to the first floor was recolor the grey brick walls, fireplace, and floors to a warmer gold shade. I used the same flooring in the kitchen instead of the tiling that was originally in there.

While I was working on the house, between saves, Emad taught Faith how to walk. Bebhinn helped with breastfeeding and potty training too.
Then we had a late-night visitor: a miniature alien!
Ok, so it was only a trick-or-treating child. He must have walked a long way to get his candy. Luckily for him, my evil sims didn't steal any of his treats.
And speak of the devil ... Emad usually starts his flirting interactions with Bebhinn by scaring her.
I think those evil frights really light both their fires! Emad loves fire on any occasion.
The final big event in my game last night was Emad's reaching level 10 in his acrobat career. He earned his Lifetime Wish, and I received an Achievement badge. Emad was my first sim to master acrobatics!

02-12. Faith Ages to Toddler

The time had come to let Faith age up to toddler. The family decided to take her to the Renaissance Arcade for the occasion. It would be a private party, but anyone who was at the fair could celebrate along with them.

Bebhinn was invited to an afternoon "pool" party, but convinced everyone to go with her to the Arcade.
There were already several people there having fun. Arcades are great for all age groups.
Emad had gone ahead to the Arcade with Faith. He worked on his acrobatic skills for a while.
The party arrived at the fair still in their swimsuits.
When Emad caught himself on fire, I decided he'd done enough juggling for the day!
Emad: Aww, did Daddy scare his little princess? Don't be afraid of the fire, genie-girl. It will never hurt you!
Bebhinn: Really, Emad! Enough with the fires. You'll turn her into a pyromaniac!
Emad: What's wrong with that?

Time to blow out the candle. ... And no, the cake did not catch on fire.
Faith as a toddler looks very much like her mother. She has mom's hair color and eyes for sure. Her genie nature of course comes from her father. Faith's skin tone is closer to her father's too, maybe a little lighter.
Paladin, her Imaginary Friend, was also there for her aging up.
Emad was enthusiastic about learning traditional fiddle tunes, but he needs a lot of practice!
I had to add a potty chair to the Arcade. We didn't want any accidents from toddlers.
Meanwhile, townies were still enjoying the fair.
I had exchanged two of the regular picnic tables for community versions, and the Burns family made use of them.
Sherry and Jennifer gambled most of the night.
There's a downside to gambling that doesn't get mentioned too often ... so embarrassing!
Bowling was a highlight of the evening. Emad played a game with Sherry while Archie bowled next to them.
Archie, I believe, must have led a "misspent" youth. He was great at arcades and bowling!
This was his kind of place! I think he was also keeping an eye on his roommate Sherry.
What? Didn't he trust Emad alone with her?
Faith was getting tired by that time, so Bebhinn carried her off to the rocking chair before they walked back home.
Good night, Faith! Hope you enjoyed your first day as a toddler.

I had to put in staircases and then decorate the main tower rooms of the Faraz house so I could add toddler toys.
Roof sections break into this room, but I don't know how to get rid of them without removing the whole roof. I just tried to decorate around them for now.
I opened up the top room in the tower too, but didn't finish decorating it. I'm not sure what it will be used for. I guess I should do a little more upgrading in the rest of the house too.

02-11. Renaissance Arcade

Lost Cove needed an arcade/casino, a place for gambling along with family fun. At first I thought I'd convert the Amore venue into a huge "Lost Vegas" casino, but there wasn't a large enough space for it, so I chose the Duke of Bows venue instead. It's designated an arcade and is a mix of old world fair activities and modern game machines.

The Renaissance Arcade is near a wooden area by the ocean.
I added a second story to the one side of the main building so I could include bowling lanes.
I changed some of the grounds items, but most of the things are as they were originally.
I took out some of the hedge and replaced it with the flag fencing and added the skeeball machine.
I also replaced one tent with a photo booth and the basketball game. I put in a love meter machine and a stereo too. On the building walkway are serve-yourself vending carts. The back tower contains the gambling areas.
The slot machines are upstairs and the betting tables are downstairs. I put all-in-ones in the bathrooms.
The main arcade room has a variety of games, a gumball machine, and a dominoes table.
The upstairs houses two bowling lanes, two table games, and a claw machine.
There are more eating areas on the other side of the balcony, plus a refrigerator for quick meals.
I put stairs in the front side tower. They lead to two more all-in-ones upstairs.
And downstairs is a relaxation room with two rocking chairs.
The one main entrance leads to the arcade area.
The second entrance opens to a small stage room.
The stage offers drums, bass, and a piano--no room for guitars, but I'd added them elsewhere (the Horse Ranch).
Lost Cove doesn't have a lot of town folk, but sims still showed up. Several hit the arcade machines right away.
Table betting was popular too. I may trade out the blackjack table for poker. But I think both games need to have at least two sims playing, which makes it tricky when there aren't many sims in the world.
Lynne was able to play at the roulette table by herself. Unfortunately, she lost all her money.
But the doctor won big time at the slot machines.
Emad autonomously chose to try out the archery range. He was actually very good at it.
At night, the arcade rooms brighten up with fun lighting colors.
The arcade venue is open from 10:00 am until 4:00 am the next morning. I didn't add a bar to this lot though.
Bebhinn and Emad played a hand of dominoes before heading back home.
