01-11. Countdown to the Wedding

Two days before Roy and Holly were to be married, I told Roy to ride Traveller over to a park. I'd hoped some townies would show up, and Roy could make a friend. He did meet a couple of firemen. I introduced Roy to the first guy, Elden Hick. Things were looking good. They even shared a trait. Maybe they'd become soccer buddies.

I forgot who I was dealing with though. Roy immediately yelled at his would-be friend. Something about manure-feeding vermin, I think.
Roy: I was throwing out the challenge! Only one of us can be Alpha. ...He lost.

While Roy was destroying his chances of friendship, in rode John Wayne. Yes, that is really his name.
Roy: All an act, posing on his horse like that! Look at those pink stars on his saddle. Come on!

Well, John seemed to be a good guy. He moseyed up to Trav with a fresh carrot and a kind word.

But seeing this, Roy then started complaining about John Wayne to Elden, the other fireman.
Roy: I was trying to bond, work out the territory here. It's all about who's in and who's not. That Wayne fellow is a definite NOT!

Me: You weren't suppose to form a gang, Roy! Why can't you be like Traveller? See how well-behaved he is?
Roy: Trav was just begging for carrots, that's all.
Me: Go home, Roy. Go home right now!

Meanwhile, back at the house, Holly was finally getting to demonstrate her skills with the grill.

Then Riley invited a friend from school over, and they played in his Hooligan Hideaway tree house. And not once did I notice any Alpha dog insults going on!

Me: He's all yours, Holly. You lassoed him. Now I hope you can keep him corralled. I sure can't.

At daybreak the next morning, Riley spent time taking care of Traveller. He wondered about the wedding to come.

To keep him busy, I assigned Roy a couple of chores while Holly worked on her wedding dress. She wanted something with a western flair.

Riley went out to collect butterflies for a school project. On one trail, he discovered a whole bevy of butterflies...the two-legged kind!
Me: Don't tell your dad about this hiking path, Riley. Just keep it a secret for now.
Riley: ...
Me: Hey? Riley? Are you listening?
Riley: ...

I didn't have time after Roy's work to set up bachelor/bachelorette parties. So I just sent Holly and him to the dance club to celebrate the last night before their wedding day.

They practiced a few country style dance moves.
The Bar Hustler.

The Prairie Flower.

The Bronco Buster.

The Senorita Swing.

And The Cactus Twister.

Holly: Oh god! Tomorrow I'm marrying Roy!

Roy: Married! But...but how did this happen?!
