In Their Natures
When I moved Charlie and Mayra in together and let them live on their own, I named their household the Dream Catcher family. Both have stars in their eyes and share the Childish trait, which to me means they're a little naive and just a tiny bit immature.
Charlie has had some hard knocks in his earlier life, so he doesn't always know how to relate to people without some buffers put up--such as a clown suit or a ventriloquist teddy bear. Charlie also has the Easily Impressed trait, so could be manipulated if it weren't for his Lucky trait which helps him sense danger.
Mayra's mother had run off when she was very young and her Gran raised her, but she has dreams about a family of her own. Mayra has the Family Oriented trait. But she's also Friendly and Excitable, so sometimes acts without thinking. But she has a strong inner Gift and connection to nature. Mayra instinctively knows what's right for her.
All this is to say, maybe they made a mistake and acted irresponsibly. But then again, maybe they were just chasing dreams and got caught themselves!
_____
While Mayra was working one evening, Charlie shared his feelings with Tittle.
Charlie: Tittle, I think Mayra likes me!
Tittle: Chatter chit.
Charlie: No, not just as a friend, but as a special someone. Josey liked me too, but she liked Colonel Mike and other guys. I think Josey just likes liking.
Tittle: Chitter chitter, chatter chatter.
Charlie: Love? I don't know about love, Tittle. I've never been in love before.
_____
But Charlie couldn't keep his eyes off Mayra. His heart beat too fast when he was around her.
And when she kissed him in the sauna, he thought he was going to pass out!
But he kissed her back ... and she kissed him back ... and ... well, they didn't stop with the kissing!
And that night, they shared a bed, but neither one of them wanted to sleep.
In the morning, Charlie discovered he was happier than he'd ever been!
And Mayra was as happy as he was. How could he get so lucky?
At the time, Mayra didn't realize how truly she spoke about family. With Charlie at work, she felt restless. Strong yearnings stirred her, and she even had strange cravings for sweets. It was like her world had turned upside down and she'd lost her balance.
Then while working in the kitchen, she understood how very much her world had changed in just one day! She and Charlie were expecting a baby!
But Mayra wasn't afraid. She was excited! A baby! They really would be a family. She had to tell Charlie ... and Gran. First though, she needed to learn how to take care of herself and her child. She headed off to the spa.
Next door at the bookstore, she bought two books on pregnancy and baby care too.
_____
When Charlie came home, Mayra told him the news right away. Charlie was shocked! How could this have happened? Well, of course he knew the answer to that! But still. What kind of father could he be? He'd barely started living on his own. Was he ready for this?
But Charlie figured it didn't matter if he was ready or not. Mayra needed him. They were a couple now. A family.
Mayra: Don't worry, Charlie. I have books. We'll learn all we need to know. And I have Granny too. She'll help. She's always looked after me. We'll go talk to Gran Caran tonight after she's finished telling fortunes to folks.
Suddenly Charlie had an anxiety attack. Gran Caran! She never liked him. She always gave him the Eye when he came around the gypsy wagon. One time she called him a trouble maker. Turns out, she was right. Just look what trouble he'd caused!
Charlie thought the best thing to do was follow Mayra's advice and study the baby books before they talked to Gran. He needed all the confidence he could muster. Too bad he couldn't wear his clown outfit, but he didn't think Granny Caran would appreciate his style.

Later that day, before Charlie left for work, Mayra took hold of his hand and spoke very seriously to him. For a moment, Charlie got a little nervous. Was she going to tell him she wanted someone else? Like Josey had done?
Mayra: Charlie, we're supposed to go steady now. You and me, we're a couple. Boyfriend and girlfriend.
Charlie: That sounds awesome, Mayra! A couple. The two of us together? ... Forever, right?
Mayra: Forever, Charlie. We'll be like a real family. And we won't be alone anymore. We'll have each other!
