I'll be narrating this chapter myself because there were a couple of behind-the-scenes twists that I want to explain.
It was around 8:30 the morning after the wedding when Mayra went into labor. She had just eaten and I was going to have Charlie give her a massage, but time had run out!
Gran and Charlie came running and started freaking out of course.
The plan was to see if I could have Mayra give birth at home. But I had bought the family a car just in case they went to the hospital. Charlie and Mayra only had Campus Cruisers before.
Then the gardeners got into the action, and I could see that Mayra would have an audience for the birth. I didn't want that to happen. So when she started heading out to the hospital, I let her go.
Unfortunately, her "preferred vehicle" was still the Cruiser! Oops. So off she goes.
With Charlie following close behind in his own Cruiser. So much for the shiny new car!
They didn't stay long inside the hospital. But when they came out, I got the message that the baby was a boy! A boy? But Mayra had gotten pregnant in the sauna. I had chosen Try for a Girl and had heard the baby chimes. I knew she'd gotten pregnant then, and the couple hadn't tried any more after that, just woohooed.
I had been so sure she'd have a girl. She even had a wish for a girl. Well, I'm here to tell you that the sauna "try for a gender" option isn't 100% guaranteed! ... Ok then, we had a boy!
But I was unprepared for a name or traits. I hadn't thought about a boy character at all. I ended up giving the little guy a trait from each of his parents: Loves the Outdoors from Mayra and Easily Impressed from Charlie. Charlie had one Nerd point, so the baby inherited that too.
Then came the name. At the time, it just so happened that I was reading a Hamish Macbeth mystery novel by MC Beaton. Hamish! That would do. It was Scottish, and in the BBC TV show, Hamish even had a Westie. Perfect!
So Mayra and Charlie took their newborn son home.
In a taxi. Not in their own car. Because this is the sims we're talking about.
Laddie was there to greet them and seemed fascinated with Hamish. In this screenshot, Mayra is actually breastfeeding the baby. I have a nursing mod, but there aren't any special animations to go with it, just moodlets for both mom and baby.
It's difficult to give infants positive moodlets. The nursing mod helps. +20 for 2 hours.
Charlie started immediately building his relationship with Hamish.
Snuggling, playing, changing diapers.
Mayra did the same. When the baby's relationship is strong with both parents, I'll age him up to toddler.
Even though Mayra breastfeeds, Charlie helps by bottle feeding Hamish every once in a while.
He let Mayra catch up on her sleep while he rocked his son and Gran continued to upgrade appliances.

I brightened up the nursery and added a few items. I also moved the toy box to another room and replaced it with the changing table.
The recolored toy box is now in the extra bedroom with the costume chest.
